Septillion Technologies is a solutions consultancy specialising in digital trust and supply chain traceability. Its Physical to Digital® technology identifies documents, products and materials by characteristics they already carry, using standard camera hardware, so they can be verified anywhere in a supply chain.
Genuine product verification
The challenge
Most anti-counterfeiting relies on something added to a product, such as a label, a hologram or a printed serial number. All of these can be copied, and a determined counterfeiter will copy them.
Septillion wanted to identify each item by something that was already part of it: a pattern random enough to be unique, readable with an ordinary camera, and tied to a digital record anyone in the supply chain could check.
The solution
We carried out all of the research and development for Fibrecode®. That covered the machine vision that captures the random distribution of intrinsic markers in a material and turns it into a unique digital fingerprint, and the platform that records each fingerprint on a blockchain when the item is made and checks it again wherever the item turns up later.
The outcome
Fibrecode® is now at the centre of Septillion’s Physical to Digital® offer, and it’s protected by granted patents in the UK, EU, USA and China. A document, product or material can be checked anywhere in the chain against the record made when it was produced, using standard camera hardware, and copying a label is no longer enough to pass the check.
